Menu Plan: August 22 - August 28

This is another odd week. We have the first few days sort of planned, but my in-laws will be here to take over, so all menus are subject to change and they will be handling all meals at least from Wednesday to Saturday. So, I'll put a tentative menu plan up and maybe update to tell you what we actually ate.

We've been getting some more projects done at the house. One of the basement windows has been replaced with a nice, much larger, egressible window. We still have to frame it and get the drywall up and paint and... However, the children's godfather came and did all sorts of work on it, as he was a contractor and actually knows what he's doing. We have the other window to be taken out, concrete filled in, and new window cut out further from the chimney and fireplace. The difference in the amount of light down there is already noticeable. We are so thankful to him. We are also thankful to a local friend who came yesterday to paint our bedroom for us, so we could work on other projects. Truly, we are blessed with good friends and all this help! What is on your menu this week? If you want a recipe, ask and I will provide it as soon as I can. If there are any starred recipes, I will follow up separately with a weekly recipe round up on Saturday.

Menu Plan: August 15 - August 21

We only have one repeat this week, and it is a breakfast, and we are using some of our garden bounty in our meals. We had such a late start on the garden, our area had a couple killing frosts at the end of May and then we've been miserable at staying on top of the garden. However, it is still trying its hardest to produce for us. The drive to survive is strong in just about everything living, it seems. So, we have been rewarded with tons of chard, kale, summer squash, some eggplant and such. We've already eaten up our radishes, lettuce and spinach, but it's about time to replant for the fall. If we can manage it. We've been using our farmer's market well, also, so we have fresh fruit and vegetables from actual farmers who know what they are doing and stay on top of things better than we do.

Jerome celebrates his fourth birthday this week, and he has made a few requests for his meals. Yellow is his favorite color, so he asked for a lemon cake because it is yellow. He also asked for grilled pizzas. His sister tried to talk him into Scotch eggs, but since she had to explain what it was to him, he got stuck on the hard boiled eggs part, and that's all he wants now, so it will be breakfast. Since we are breaking our Wednesday fast for his birthday celebration, we are observing one the day before. What is on your menu this week? Menu Plan: August 8 - August 14

The family had a week's vacation last week, though Rich had to work all week. He had two conferences back to back in the same town, and while he was listening to boring lectures, we were hanging out with friends at parks, zoos, museums and swimming pools. We took the long way down and stopped at the home of one of Rich's friends from high school. Our children played with their children and we all took a six hour river cruise together. It was a great visit. In one day, one the way back, we traveled through three states and two time zones. We were able to stop in and see the children's godparents and their son for dinner before we took the last stretch home.

This week has a few repeats on our menu, but mostly we are back in the swing of things. What is on your menu this week? If you want a recipe, ask and I will provide it as soon as I can. If there are any starred recipes, I will follow up separately with a weekly recipe round up on Saturday.
