Works for Me Wednesday: Coffee Cubes
This is a quickie entry this week, but great for summer.
I have never been much of a fan of iced coffees, because the ice dilutes the coffee. I drink my coffee strong and black.
However, except for letting the children have small sips or cafe au lait, I am the only one who drinks it in our house. Since I still usually end up making a bit more than I can drink in a day, I use the dead coffee in the pot to make frozen coffee ice cubes in our ice trays. When they are frozen, I put them in a freezer bag to store them in the freezer. I use these for iced coffee drinks, or in chocolate milk. Even Rich likes that.
Finding a second use for old coffee that tastes good works for me!

Another thing you could do is make cold-brew coffee. It's almost like making tea, and "Seattle's Best" makes the only iced coffee I'll drink this way. Essentially, you take an empty tea-bag, fill it with coffee grounds, and let the coffee grounds soak in water over night. You end up with a concentrated coffee mixture. Dilute it with water, and it will be the best iced coffee you've ever had; to me it's comparable to the difference between hot tea that I've let get cold, and sun tea that's set out all day. Soooo good. I wonder if you could even use your old grounds for this... hm...
I cold press my coffee--coffee brewed cold is always better than hot coffee chilled. However, I may have to try the coffee cube thing with the left over hot brewed coffee. Thanks!
This is awesome!! I always have some coffee left over. Great idea. Thanks. Also, love the music - Peter Gabriel "In your Eyes". GREAT!!! I love this song, thanks.
That is such a fantastic idea! I wonder if we have any ice trays? We have a (piece of crap) automatic ice maker, so I never make ice - but wow. That's an awesome idea!
Thanks for entering the stroller contest on my blog! Good luck!
