Secret Food Shame

I confess. I love Pillsbury's canned crescent rolls.

I know they are full of ingredients that don't actually qualify as food. I know that I pride myself on making wholesome food from scratch for my family, even to the point of making bread, yogurt, jams and jellies, preserves, relishes and pickles. I know I eschew highly processed foods, high fructose corn syrup, margarine, vegetable shortening, artificial flavorings and preservatives in general. I don't even buy pancake mix, or cake mix, and the only boxed cookies I buy are the Nabisco Chocolate Wafers for when I make cheesecake. I even know how to make really good, butter rich, croissants from scratch that are flaky, light and much better than these canned things.

But. I love these rolls. I can eat two cans' worth on my own. For snack.

Needless to say, I don't buy them often. Maybe twice a year, but boy are they worth it.

I have two other food shames. When I was a kid, my mom's family would bring us all sorts of treats from Saudi Arabia when they would visit. Most of them were great pastries, breads, things like that. There was this one canned cheese (what is it with canned food products?) food product. I kid you not, cheese food product. Kraft. In a blue can. The selling point was that you could use the can opener on both sides of the can, push the cheese out and slice it with the edge of the can lid. They also have an upscale, creamy version that comes in glass jars and after you use it up spreading it on your toast, you can wash the jars (which have smooth tops, no threads for the lid) and use the jars as tea glasses.

My other shameful food love is Pearson's Salted Nut Rolls. You know, those red wrapper, candy packages that people skip over to get to the Snickers? The ones that have been sitting on the shelf for so long that the fake marshmallow filling is now stale? Even though it doesn't actually have a shelf life? Those. I could eat them a handful at a time.

So, what are your secret food shames? Leave me a comment, and unburden your soul.

Chicken nuggets. I usually avoid all meat, and especially fast-food processed meat. But fast food chicken nuggets are so good. Comparing fast food chicken nuggets to Morningstar farms fake meat chicken nuggets is like comparing a dying flash light to the light of the sun.

I've had them once in the last five years. I don't want to develop a habit.

twizzlers, I love them!!! Cinnamon Bears!

I have a secret, undying love for 5th Avenue bars. And, since I got pregnant, I am completely, totally, utterly in love with grape skittles.

And I noticed the other day that I have almost all the fixins for Ants On A Log. Just need the celery.

Skittles. Since I got pregnant, I would do nearly anything for a bag of Skittles. Especially an orange one and a purple one at the same time.

Well, I have no shame about this addiction, Dutch Chocolate Blue Bell ice cream. I buy on occassion, but pregnancy has picked-up the pace.
Is the Kraft cheese you're talking about similar to something called Kiri? We had this where I lived in the middle east and it was simlare to cream cheese.

Oh where to begin..............I am junk food junkie. Fortunately most of it is in America and that is where it stays unless I am having a moment and then my mom will send my something. I love double stuffed oreos, peeps which fortunately I cannot get Kosher so I don't eat them anymore, Dark Chocoalte Milky Ways, Skippy Peanut Butter, and Cadbury Mini Eggs! I have more but I will quit there. Fortunately we really only junk out a few times a year otherwise it is just a few things here and there. As time goes on I am learning to cook more and use all natural ingredients. However, the one thing that i cannot replace are the corn shnitzel patties here. It is basically corn in a batter and fried up. They are a big thing here and quick and easy to make. Just pop 'em in the oven or toaster for 30min with french fries and dinner is served! Ah the joys of processed food!

KLK,

I don't know if the cheese is similar to Kiri. I'll have to see if I can find a can or a jar and post a picture. I'd been a while since I've had it. Our local Arabic market closed about a year ago, and I haven't gone searching for a new market yet.
